Some are finding success using a black/grape Shaky Head worms. a few saugeyes have been caught by trolling in front of the beaches. Catfish are hitting nightcrawlers and shad. a few anglers have been trolling with Triple Ripples to catch crappies in deep water. Watch for jumps and toss inline spinners to catch white bass.
Caesar Creek Lake: Crappies are deep, hanging around the mouths of coves in sunken trees. try fishing about 12 feet deep. Bluegills are around stickups and have been caught at depths of 7-10 feet on waxworms. Bass fishing has been decent early and late, using topwater and spinner baits. for saugeyes, try trolling around the island.
Indian Lake: With temperatures in the 90s and water temps in the high 80s, not many people have been fishing and not many fish have been biting. if you are going to try for saugeyes, work the lily pads or fish the deep water around bridges. a few catfish have been caught on nightcrawlers or chicken liver, but most have been small. the Indian Lake Catfish Tournament will be August 4-7. for more information, call (937) 843-2551.
Grand Lake St. Marys: Catfish are biting on chubs and nightcrawlers. Bluegills continue to hit waxworms around docks and brush in deep channels. the lake water appears clear, but the Ohio EPA has not lifted its warning against contact with the water. Follow the EPA’s latest directories at epa.ohio.gov/pic/glsm. also, live data on water quality is available to the public at livelakedata.com.
Lake Loramie: “if you come here now, you will have lots of fun catching catfish,” one observer said. use nightcrawlers or shrimp and work the deep water. a few crappies have been caught from under bridges and around lily pads. Bass fishing has been good early and late with crankbaits and plastics. Bluegills are hitting waxworms and redworms around rocks.
Paint Creek Lake: Fish along bluff walls in 20 feet of water for crappies. most are suspended in the 7-9-foot range. use crappie minnows or blue/chartreuse jigs. Bass fishermen have been working the same areas with green/pumpkin jigs. Plenty of white bass have been caught. Watch for jumps and cast inline spinners. Channel cats have been caught on cut shad and nightcrawlers. Shovelheads have been caught in the spillway with bluegills.
C. J. Brown Reservoir: Work the deep holes with minnows to catch crappies. try jigging with nightcrawlers or leeches over the humps and old road bed to catch walleyes. for bluegills, fish around the fish attractors with waxworms at varying depths.
Cowan Lake: Slow trolling has been the best method to catch crappies. use minnows and work the area around the island. Catfish have been hitting at night on nightcrawlers, chubs and cut shad. for bluegills work the wood in the coves with waxworms or redworms.
Lake Erie: Walleye fishing improved over the past week. the best reports came from northeast of West Sister Island, “D” can and Niagara Reef of the Camp Perry firing range, and Northwest Reef (northwest of North Bass Island). Yellow perch fishing was good over the past week. the best areas have been around the Toledo water intake, Lakeside, and the southeast corner of the Kelleys Island. Smallmouth bass have been caught close to the Bass Islands.

When it comes to fundraising, Adopt-A-Box is breaking out the big gun: Deer Fest.
Think camouflage and pretty much anything related to hunting, fishing and the great outdoors and you have Deer Fest, an event in its third year that hasn’t had to fish around for an audience. More than 5,000 outdoorsy types scoped out the vendor booths, angler tanks, aquariums and the like at the 2010 event, and Deer Fest has grown even bigger this year as the festival takes over an even larger portion of the Multi-Purpose Events Center’s Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall on Saturday.
“We’ll have over a hundred vendor booths, from hunting to fishing to chunky jewelry,” said Gwyn Bevel, Deer Fest committee member.
Just some of the vendors operating booths will be Scentsy Candles, Warpath Western Works, Cadillac Ranch Creations, the Wildflower Boutique, Amarillo German Roasted Nuts, full Quiver Archery, Pampered Chef and Muddy Water Outfitters, to name just a few.
Besides shopping, just as popular will be the children’s area, which will take up a large amount of space in the Exhibit Hall. at the Kids Corner, children can throw down their best coloring skills in the children’s coloring contest. And don’t forget to dress young fishing and hunting aficionados in their best camouflage. Deer Fest will be looking for the best dressed in the Cutest Kid in Camo Contest.
“The Texas Junior Anglers catch tank is pretty popular with the little ones. they can fish for live fish,” Bevel said of just one of the attractions at the festival.
Another attraction is Bass Tubs of Oklahoma, which will bring one of its bass tubs

As a coarse angler, I enjoy stalking a variety of fish species. The second best thing I like to do is surf the net and thumb through magazines for coarse fishing tackle to put into the wide array of tackle I have now. taking into consideration that fishing is my major hobby, it’s not difficult for me to spend my money on superior fishing equipment. I have got to admit, though, that I have a particular weak spot for high-end fishing reels. For me, the reel has to be versatile, as well as rugged and durable, since I tend to be hard on my tackle. One reel I really like is the Daiwa Certate 2500. It is outstandingly well-built and filled with premium components. following is a brief report of the Certate’s excellent assortment of components and functions.
Coarse Fishing Tackle: Key Features of the Daiwa Certate 2500 Mag Sealed Reel
Fresh from business front runner Daiwa, this Certate 2500 is the initial product in what is sure to be a lengthy series of pioneering fishing reels. this particular fishing reel is fashioned with a novel style which implements magnetic fluid; this is a space-age element produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA, located in the United States. Originally conceived as a seal used when delivering fuel to space vehicles like the space shuttle, magnetic fluid technology was adapted by Daiwa for use in their flagship Certate reel product range. Addiction is the only appropriate word that comes to my mind. Who is going to volunteer to clock at 5. 00, and even in the holidays. it was not that we stayed at 20. 00 clock in the pan. No. also at this time we were still on the lake. But it was worth it. Every day we have caught fish. most bass were all over 1kg. The post was really from a massive and I am always amazed again, which force packages abound in this lake. I also wanted to know again. According to some drill Enzugserscheinungen the past few months (red wine ntzt only in part), I wanted to know eswieder times. The sun was at its best, andthe wind had that certain something. More of the story here. had found this one as dieEinheimischendas worm weather, we drove the Lauerzersee weiteran. No wind! But a worm brown Brhe to expect. And enhanced wear or high water. again, there are still more . . Noah Noah wre not, give up quickly when he Gravity Grave. And he tried it in the same place as already amletzten Sunday. Only the many Wasservgel caused some stress on ejection. And then comes the bite. Like a hammer. A big Alet grabbed the bait and took off like a torpedo without a goal. Several side alignment had to be parried with the fine Evergreen Firangi. And finally we could really fat Aletbestaunen. Saturday 15 September 2007 All under the motto. if Vter go fishing with the Shnen. start was at 8. 00 clock in the Fischerhsli Innerthal. According to the Assumption of the two boats a short strategic meeting and off we went to the lake. Equipped with several rods, hopefully the right Kdern and the necessary dose of optimism, we ventured after five minutes the first Wrfe. Noah has mighty flat out and implemented its properties as a good connoisseur of guidemssig Wgitalersees. Standing in the bow front, he has constantly searched for the fish. there, there and back there it has fish. Eingekurbelt fired up, and . . . . not. In the first few hours of make bass fishing lures was pretty mhsam wanted the Regenbgler not like us. But then after noon it was really "as usual" and create! there was fish in the evening. Mom said denhatte create! Precaution bought at Migros. The WGI trout have been frozen. Pictures of our make bass fishing lures day on the Wgitalersee of 15 September 2007 are here. of 29 September to 6 October were Eva and I have a week in Reckingen (Wallis) to the biking holidays. The weather was from day one. Breakfast is available from the sun at 1341m M. . even the subsequent reception featuring Grillmen the temperature was pleasant. In Walliser Spycher, we have fine wines and good Essengegnnt. we have also taken a few walks. Unfortunately, it was fr fungi, which we wanted to blow away, somehow too dry. we found in a week not a single vernnftigen fungus. But it was still a super worm and enjoyable week. Always in the fresh air and sunshine again refuel extensively. And then on Thursday a few clouds are raised, we went to Salgesch and with the many Mathies have different fine wines tasted and bought a few (48) bottles. And then the week was over. More information and pictures are here. Saturday 11 August 2007. Noahund I had already on Saturday at the Wgitalersee frh. besides Dauerpisse and drizzle we had arrested a few Egil and bit a couple of Alet aggressive on our lures. But by noon we had not a single trout in the net. changes in the weather (a little sun) and relocation brought after two Wrfen a double drill. The 35s was in a fish box. Then it went quickly. Suddenly, the fine Pezon Michel Redountable make bass fishing lures from Noah to turn the bow crooked. Aligned with surrender brake. Sprnge and again escapes. keeps the monofilament yarn 2kg? But after a few more escapes, I could sack the worm lady. 64cm long and 3. 8kg heavy. of joy. But . . no fish, no drill. again we arrive at Wgitaltersee. But this time only at 13. 05 clock. Boat hire, patents and solved from the lake. The second litter is already a good 34th in the net. if it continues like this? And then follows bite bite. Some make bass fishing lures wild escapes and escape and a few remain in the fish box. For me Kderwechsel was announced. "big bait produced big fish. " Einkrubeln first litter, slow gemchliches and then . . the bite is tough. But the fish were hard to catch. love the bass but the sun is not special. And lure the fish from the shadow . . yes, that was a challenge. The rubber worm targeted to skip under the berhngenden boomerang throwing art . . la Noah. Actually, I find attacks on Oberflchenkder the hottest. The pure adrenaline. The pulse is already on ejection of verdchtige points, slightly higher. Then comes the bite . . and off you go. The Cultiva Tango Dancer or the Skitter Walk of Rapala were with me the most successful bait. Only the perch were generally very zurckhaltend this summer. And now and then a medium or even large Alet on Popper . . is fun. Pictures from Ticino are here. Actually we wanted to spend a few warm days in the sun of Ticino. again, we have to express a big thanks to Peter – he left us but the first few days really in the rain. The de saying "there is no bad weather, just bad clothes," I can not really lead. For three days after the last rain suit Dauerpisse is no longer tight. Hiking shoes dry does not really fun. so blue the sky may be in the Ticino. The Cento Valli offers a myriad of schnen walks and a variety of small Drfern originally Ticino. Tourism takes place mainly in Centovalli Bhnchen. Off the main road and rail routes Ticino still lives like 40 years ago. although it is quite long ago. February 2007 was it, as Noah, Rachel and I were now to 10x in Adelboden in the ski vacation. The weather was in the early days but we have not really made the most of it. Poker DVD Fischerheftli study, writing mails . . Then some really kamenein worm as a statutory holiday to do so. we could "abeftze" on the slopes and enjoy the cocktail reception in the sun. Here you will find some pictures, which were yet not be published. . . .
Abu Garcia Corp. The Abu Garcia Revo baitcaster is one of the lightest on the market at just 5.4 ounces.
Some 7,000 representatives from the global sportfishing community converged on the Convention Center in Las Vegas last week for the world’s largest sportfishing trade show. The International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, better known as ICAST, drives sportfishing companies’ product sales year round and is the showcase for the latest innovations in gear and accessories. over 400 companies exhibited at the show this year, many unveiling new-to-the-market products.
Quantum released a new KVD Cranking Classic reel with a 5.3:1 gearing and oversized gears in a lightweight frame. The reel has 11 stainless steel ball bearings and a ceramic drag system. Price is $299. their new EXO line offers some of the lightest reels in the business thanks to ventilated frames–available in both baitcasting and spinning. The company also introduced an economy combo, the Metrix, which includes a 7.0:1 high-speed baitcaster plus a graphite rod with microguides at $100 for the whole package; quantumfishing.com.
The T-shaped line guide on Daiwa’s premium T-3 series baitcaster allows line to spool off the reel during casting without ever touching the level-wind guide. On retrieve, a cover plate clicks down to push the line into the bottom of the “T” and lay it smoothly back on the spool–clever idea. They start at $249.95; daiwa.com.
Abu-Garcia introduced one of the lightest baitcasters in the industry, the Revo MGX, at just 5.4 ounces for a reel that holds 115 yards of 12-pound-test mono. Should be great for handling finesse baits on light rods. Price is up there, $349.95; abugarcia.com.
Berkley’s new Nanofil fishing line is a braided line with the handling qualities of monofilament thanks to fused threads. The line is as smooth as single filament line, boasts zero stretch, has the amazing strength-to-diameter of braid (about 1/3 the thickness of comparable mono at a given pound-test), and casts significantly farther than either type of line on most spinning reels–should be great for finesse bassing. It’s thus far available only in tests up to 10 pounds, and priced at $19.95 for 150 yards; purefishing.com.
From PowerPro, the new SuperSlick 8 line is woven of eight threads rather than the usual four, making a smoother line that the company says will cast more easily, snarl less and last even longer; powerpro.com.
Yo-Zuri’s new Sashimi lures appear to change colors like a frightened octopus with each twitch of the rod. The trick is accomplished by ridged surfaces with different colors on each side–the color changes are dramatic and very eye catching. The jointed model should be a good one for ripping through the weeds at Guntersville; yo-zuri.com.
Sebile introduced a new crankbait, the DS Crank, with a single jumbo hook that “floats” on the back end. The designer says the lure is practically snagproof, yet offers a better hookup ratio than treble-hook crankbaits. The company also has a very smart design in their plastic worms, which include pre-molded rigging holes–much faster, easier and more durable than standard worms; sebile.com.
The VMC Spin-Shot is a clever idea in drop-shot hooks; it includes a built-in swivel that holds the hook at 90 degrees to the line. Tie your running line to the top eye, your leader to the sinker on the bottom and the worm or critter bait stands out from the line and does not twist as you work it; vmchooks.com.
Powerpole introduced a new 10-foot version of their shallow-water automatic anchoring system for bass anglers–formerly an 8-footer was the company’s largest. The anchor can be lowered at the touch of a remote from anywhere in the boat in seconds. Price is around $2,000; power-pole.com
SARGEANT WINS NATIONAL AWARD: Huntsville Times outdoors writer Frank Sargeant was named the American Sportfishing Association “Fishing Communicator of the Year” at the ICAST show. The award is presented by the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA).
“Frank’s biography of journalistic accomplishments and contributions in the sportfishing industry is encyclopedic,” said POMA Board of Directors Chairman Bill Miller. “His accomplishments are outshone only by his enviable skill at communicating the outdoor story and commitment to mentoring others–it’s a well-deserved award.”
